Values

Something I'm learning as I hit the 3-year mark in my business is that it's essential for me and my business to have clear values. If I don't, then I'm likely to fail to uphold my values, because I haven't clearly defined them.

I also think it's essential to share those values so that my potential clients & customers can feel comfortable investing with someone who aligns with their own values.

With that in mind, here are my values, outlined for you below.

And if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to email me at megan@theneurocuriosityclub.com.

1. Lived Experience Matters

Research is infinitely valuable, but so also is lived experience. In The Neurocuriosity Club, we aim to listen to each other’s lived experiences and respect them as informative and valuable anecdotal data, especially from those commonly left out of or dehumanized in research, like neurodivergent people of the global majority, or those with more highly stigmatized neurodivergencies.

2. Curiosity

The purpose of The Neurocuriosity Club is to learn as much as I can, and to educate others as much as I can, and I do that best through being curious, rather than judgmental.

3. Openness to Being Wrong & Changing My Mind

For curiosity to be most potent, it must be paired with an openness to accepting that my previous opinions were wrong, or not what I believe anymore, and posting apologies, corrections, and changed opinions. I do not view this as “wishy-washy” or “hypocritical,” but rather, a key part of growth as someone who has a lot to learn.

4. Disability Justice

The Neurocuriosity Club seeks to follow and fulfill the 10 tenets of disability justice. This includes, but is in no way limited to, respecting the leadership of those most affected. As a middle-class, straight, cis, white woman, I know I possess an immense amount of privilege. While my perspective on many issues may be valuable, I will never again presume that mine is the most important point of view. I will do everything in my power to make sure those who are most affected by disability have space to speak and be heard.

5. Anti-Racism & Anti-Colonialism

It's not enough to not be outwardly racist or not actively go to other countries and commit colonial acts. We need to take everyday action to undo these harmful paradigms where we are. The Neurocurious Club aims to do this through intentional personal learning (and unlearning), calling representatives and having hard discussions with loved ones about these topics, and using all available platforms to call others to action as well.

6. Self-Sovereignty

Each neurodivergent or neurocurious person has sovereignty over themselves and their identity; they are in charge of themselves, and no one, especially not me, can tell them who to be or how to identify. I have made this mistake in the past and I intend to do my best to avoid it moving forward.

7. Financial Equity (For Both My Clients & Myself)

The Neurocuriosity Club provides both free and paid resources to support as many people as possible, including myself. I will provide payment plans, pay-what-you-can options, and scholarship spots as applicable to make the financial aspect of getting help as equitable as possible.

8. Calling In, Not Calling Out

When harm is perpetrated in The Neurocuriosity Club space, there will be swift mediation, and the individual who has caused harm will be contacted privately and encouraged to reflect, address the harm, and make changes to reduce further harm. There will be no public “calling out” but rather a “calling in” to change. Where a solution cannot be reached, the individual will be lovingly removed and/or blocked from The Neurocuriosity Club space in order to protect the other participants in this space

9. Intersectional Feminism

I aim to make The Neurocuriosity Club an organization that actively tears down the patriarchy to protect all people, especially people of the global majority and trans folks.
